hello! i’m Cortney
Wife, mother, & Integrative nutrition health coach
I am a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, soon to be Certified Herbal Practitioner as well as a Yoga Instructor based in Boston, MA. I began my career in wellness after being burnt out after a career in the corporate world. Unfortunately, like many others in corporate, I found it to be a place that was filled with health struggles and horrible eating habits brought on by constant travel and long working hours. This took a toll on my both mentally and physically. I always thought of myself as a healthy person but after being told I could not have children I was determined to rebalance my hormones after years of dealing with imbalances, gut issues and severe endometriosis. Having my son inspired me to change my career path and help others in their journeys. Now I work to create a safe space for women to discover what it means to leave the diets, negative self-talk, and unsustainable “wellness trends” behind to discover their best selves. I believe in a bioindividual approach to my practice – helping women develop sustainable habits in their nutrition, movement and mindset. Each person’s journey is different so the approach to meet their goals are also different. When I’m not working with my clients I love to try new coffee spots, create new recipes and tea blends, attend local farmers markets with my son and husband, and discover new self care methods.

These are a few THINGS ABOUT ME…
- I love spending time with my 1 year old son Kashel. Taking him to local farmers markets and being able to cook with him has been some of the best moments with him. He loves almost everything and I believe that healthy eating/ healthy understanding starts at a young age.
- I began practicing yoga when I was 18 and fell in love but I only recently decided I wanted to become fully certified and teach as a part of my wellness practice. More on that coming very soon!
- I grew up with my grandparents who has a big urban garden and I always loved playing in the garden and learning about the different herbs, plants and vegetables. I now garden at my own home with my son who loves picking everything even if it isn’t ready yet 🙂
- I used to be in corporate before leaving my career to pursue a health coaching professional career. I loved my time in corporate and I learned a lot about PR, marketing and business during my time there but I have never been as happy doing what I am doing now. I hope to help as many people as possible find their path to a wellthy life.
The Journey
MY PERSONAL WELLNESS JOURNEY
My journey to health has never been a straight path, but really is anyones? We all have our own paths to our specific version of health. What works for one doesn’t work for another and that’s okay! I am here to help you find what path works best for you because we are all bio-individually different with unique needs. Although I grew up playing sports my idea “healthy” when I was younger couldn’t be anymore skewed from my mindset today. This idea is true no matter what stage of healthy we are in. There is always room for growth and knowledge in the subject of nutrition and if you are a little lost I am here to help!

I always felt like I was on an uphill battle with food. Let me take you back to around 2011 – you see, me and food weren’t really friends. We were more like frenemies. I would eat and feel sick, then not eat then start eating again and get sick. After coughing up blood and a two week stint in my local hospital I was sent to see a gastroenterologist in Boston. Turned out I had somehow burned a hole in my stomach and ended up with an ulcers. After three colonoscopies and two endoscopies in a two year span no one would really tell me what was wrong with me aside from the fact that I was lactose-intolerant. Something that I had guessed at for years but never could get a true “diagnosis”. They thought maybe IBS, colitis, or so many other things I can’t even pronounce never mind spell. All negative. I endured test after test and blood work after blood work with no true ‘reason’ as to why I was feeling this way. After a long car ride into the city for an appointment and sitting in another specialists office I told my mom I was done. I couldn’t do it anymore. After years of trying to “figure it out” I came to a point where I needed to just start clean. In July 2015 I decided to go vegan – at the time the plant based lifestyle was newish (at least to me). I began following vegan YouTubers, reading countless books, and really understanding how my body works. I can tell you with honesty that somethings worked and some didn’t. After being completely vegan for about two years I found my body craving certain things that I had grown up eating. I am first generation Portuguese so we eat a lot of seafood. I grew up playing in my grandparents large urban garden and eating right from the soil. So I decided to listen to my body and began eating things that it wanted. Today I consider myself mainly plant-based but I do eat seafood and eggs (local pasture-raised). I tell this story to help people understand that health and what your body needs can change at any time. It is up to you to listen to it and relearn what actually works for you. I haven’t had severe digestive issues since that time and if you are also suffering through that I hope you know that there is light at the end of the tunnel you just have to be ready to help yourself.
Have you found that societies idea of health and beauty seems to be going hand-in-hand as of late? I feel as though social media has played such a significant part in this. How I see myself, in regards to body image, has changed significantly — mainly because my body has changed drastically post-baby. Becoming a mother has been the most incredible thing that ever happened to me, but like a lot of new mothers I had to relearn to love the way I look and regain my confidence.
I found myself comparing myself to those I would see online who would have a baby and somehow be on the beach three weeks later. Like how?! It took some time but I had to work through that mentally and learn to love my beautiful post-baby body. Instead of comparing I choose to work to be the healthiest and happiest version I can be of myself. That is what I want to help others with! To learn to be the happiest and healthiest versions of themselves. My goal is to help women feel great whether you are a mother or not. This can be through movement, wellness, nutrition, and overall mentality. This is Wellthy Cortney; it is a place for you to feel renewed, refreshed, and inspired!
I also wrote /SƏLF/ – a selfceare journal as an outlet for anyone and everyone to get to the true root of their feelings and thoughts. I hope these are places and resources for you to find those things and so much more.
Maybe you are here because you are looking for 1:1 coaching, maybe you are here because you saw one of my recipes on instagram and decided to pop over, or because we share the same mindset on things. No matter your reason I hope to inspire you to love yourself a little more and share with you everything that I am loving right now that makes me happy so that hopefully it can make you happy!
